Claude (web, desktop, mobile)

Connect Claude (web, desktop, mobile)

Add Octopus to Claude once as a custom connector. It then works on claude.ai, in the Claude Desktop app and in the Claude mobile apps, with your Claude account.

Before you start: you need an Octopus account and a teamspace in MCP only or Desktop + MCP mode — set it up at octopus-brain.com/connect. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector.

Free, Pro and Max plans

  1. In Claude, open Customize → Connectors and choose Add custom connector (the + button).
  2. Name it Octopus and paste the URL. Leave the advanced settings (OAuth client ID and secret) empty.
  3. Click Add, then Connect. A window opens on octopus-brain.com.
  4. Sign in with your Octopus account, choose the teamspace and click Allow. You're sent back to Claude.

Team and Enterprise plans

On organization plans, an Owner adds the connector once for everyone; then each person connects with their own Octopus account.

  1. Owner, once: Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web. Name it Octopus, paste the URL and click Add. On Enterprise, members with a custom role that includes Manage access to Libraries can do it too.
  2. Each person: Customize → Connectors, find Octopus, click Connect, then sign in and approve on octopus-brain.com.

Everyone who connects must be a member of the teamspace in Octopus, and counts as one seat — see Billing.

Claude doesn't let you edit a connector's authentication settings later. To change them, remove the connector and add it again.

Using Octopus in a chat

  • Make sure Octopus is turned on in the chat's tools menu.
  • Say “Use Octopus”, or pick Start with Octopus in the + menu → Octopus prompts, or simply ask about your team's work: Claude loads the Octopus context first, then searches the brain and your projects before answering.
  • Octopus has many tools, so Claude loads them on demand. In the connector's settings you can set each tool to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked. Destructive actions always ask for your approval.

Add your documents to a project

Claude can't pass the files you attach in a chat on to Octopus. To put your own documents (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, images, or a whole folder) into a project:

  • Ask Claude, for example “I want to add files to the Acme project”. Octopus gives Claude an upload link for that project: open it, drop your files or a folder, and they're added for everyone in the project.
  • Or open octopus-brain.com/upload yourself: sign in, choose the teamspace and the project, then drop your files.

Up to 2 GB per file, and a folder keeps its structure. Once the upload is done, ask Claude to list the project's files: it can read them right away.

Claude Desktop and mobile

Connectors added on claude.ai show up in Claude Desktop and in the mobile apps as soon as you're signed in to the same Claude account. Don't add Octopus to claude_desktop_config.json: that file is only for local servers.

Several teamspaces

A connection works in one teamspace at a time. Ask Claude to switch teamspace — it uses the switch_teamspace tool, and the change applies to every conversation using this connection. To use two teamspaces side by side, add a second connector with another name and choose the other teamspace when you approve it.

Disconnect

  • In Claude: remove the connector in Customize → Connectors.
  • In Octopus: octopus-brain.com/account → Connected apps → Disconnect. Access stops immediately.
