FAQ
Do I need the Octopus app?
No. In MCP only mode, everything happens in your AI app; octopus-brain.com is where you sign in, choose your teamspace and manage your connected apps and keys. In Desktop + MCP mode you can use both — same brain, same data.
Which AI apps work?
Claude (claude.ai, Claude Desktop and mobile), Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT in developer mode (beta), and any client that supports remote MCP servers — see Other clients.
One connector, one teamspace?
Yes: a connection works in one teamspace at a time, the one you chose when you approved it. You can ask your AI to switch teamspace (it applies to every conversation using that connection), or add a second connector — with another name — to use another teamspace side by side.
Does everyone who connects need to be a member?
Yes. Each person connects with their own Octopus account and must be a member of the teamspace. Every member is billed as one seat, at the member or admin rate — see Billing.
Does Octopus use my Claude or ChatGPT usage?
Yes: on the MCP path, the AI runs on your own Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor plan. Octopus adds no usage fees and no caps of its own.
Can my teammates see what I do through Claude?
What you create in Octopus is shared as usual: files land in the project for the team, group messages are visible to the group, tasks follow the usual rules. Your conversation with Claude stays in Claude unless you ask it to save it to Octopus — saved conversations are visible to admins, as in the app.
Does EU hosting cover data read through Claude?
No. The Octopus EU-hosting option covers the Octopus app. Data your AI app reads through Octopus is processed by that app's provider, under your agreement with them. Teams with strict residency requirements should keep that data out of external AI apps.
Can I use Claude's Free plan?
Yes, with one limit set by Anthropic: Claude Free allows only one custom connector.
How do I get a create code?
Creating a teamspace requires the shared create code. Write to hello@octopus-brain.com. To join an existing teamspace, ask one of its admins for the join code.
What happens when an admin changes the access mode?
- To MCP only: the Octopus app is blocked for every member; everyone uses Octopus from their AI app.
- To Desktop + MCP: both work.
- Desktop only is no longer offered. A teamspace already in it keeps it (external AI apps stay off) until an admin moves it to another mode.
How do I disconnect an app or a key?
At octopus-brain.com/account: Connected apps → Disconnect, or Personal keys → Revoke. It takes effect immediately.
In which language does Octopus answer?
In yours. Octopus tells your AI your preferred language (French by default), and your AI follows the language you write in.
