Connect Cursor
Cursor connects to remote MCP servers from its mcp.json configuration. Sign in with OAuth (recommended), or use a personal key.
Sign in with OAuth
In Cursor Settings, open the MCP section (Tools & Integrations in recent versions) and add a new server — or edit
~/.cursor/mcp.jsondirectly (all projects), or.cursor/mcp.jsonin a project:{ "mcpServers": { "octopus": { "url": "https://mcp.octopus-brain.com/mcp" } } }Cursor shows that Octopus needs a login. Click it: octopus-brain.com opens in your browser.
Sign in, choose the teamspace and click Allow. Cursor then lists the Octopus tools.
Use a personal key
Generate a key on octopus-brain.com/connect (Personal keys → Generate a key), then:
{
"mcpServers": {
"octopus": {
"url": "https://mcp.octopus-brain.com/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${env:OCTOPUS_API_KEY}" }
}
}
}
Set OCTOPUS_API_KEY in the environment Cursor starts from — or paste the key instead of ${env:OCTOPUS_API_KEY}, but only in a file that is never committed or shared.
Tips
- In Agent mode, Cursor asks before running a tool unless you allowed it.
- Octopus has many tools. If Cursor warns about the number of active tools, turn off the ones you don't need in the MCP settings.
- To disconnect, remove the server from
mcp.jsonand disconnect the app (or revoke the key) at octopus-brain.com/account.
